Electrodes in ASPA’s welding equipment are key components that come into direct contact with the material to be welded. Due to the intensive use during the welding process, these electrodes are subjected to high stress and rapid wear. To ensure optimal performance of the welding machine, regular maintenance and replacement of electrodes is essential. ASPA offers a wide range of electrodes, including straight, cap, shaped and special electrodes, which are manufactured at the company’s headquarters according to strict quality standards.
Choosing the right electrode material is critical to the success of a welding operation. Electrodes must have excellent electrical conductivity to minimize resistance to current, and good thermal conductivity for rapid heat dissipation. Mechanical properties are also important to prevent the electrodes from cracking under force. The electrode material must be hard enough to withstand compressive forces and retain that hardness at high temperatures.
Of the available metals, the most versatile is chromium copper with a small admixture of zirconium, which combines all the key properties necessary for effective welding. Thanks to a special manufacturing technique, this copper alloy has a crystal structure with fiber orientation, which further enhances its mechanical properties. Chrome copper exhibits much better high-temperature hardness and resistance to softening compared to standard copper-zirconium alloys. However, when welding materials such as copper, chromium copper may not be suitable. Therefore, ASPA also offers electrodes made of electrolytic copper, sintered copper-tungsten alloy, molybdenum, tungsten or graphite, which are tailored for special applications.
